Upper Green River - May 2012 - Warren Bridge to Fontenelle Reservoir - Part 4 of 5
Doug was naturally furious at the person who had strung that line. It was not an electric fence or some cattle barrier, just a piece of 1/16th braided nylon cord. It appeared to merely indicate where whoever built the diversion was to drop the materials. We spoke about it later with a wildlife ranger and he felt that it was pretty well established that land owners did not have the right to create a hazard to navigation, and in theory had the outcome been worse, it could be a case of reckless endangerment or even (in a drowning) negligent homicide.
We cut enough of the line to clear the channel, but anyone running this river is advised to look very closely before running any diversion weirs. The Gila is the only other river where I have found ranchers showing a complete, even aggressive, disregard for boaters.
The last day on Section 1, above Fontenelle Dam.
