Upper Green River - May 2012 - Fontenelle Reservoir to Green River, Wyoming - Part 3 of 4
Camping just below the Pioneer Park, we had a mere 17.23 miles to Expedition Island in Green River, the spot where John Wesley Powell set out on his epic exploration of the Green/Colorado rivers. It seemed like a fitting end point. In actuality there are about five miles more of flowing river until the Flaming Gorge impoundment backs it up, but we felt OK about skipping that section. From the road we could see it was flat, lined with small use roads, gravel pits, and sewage treatment plants.
A few miles above Green River, Wyoming.
