Roughly a three hour drive from Phoenix to Ash Fork where we consolidated vehicles and gear. Another two hours had us at Diamond Creek starting to rig for a 2 PM launch. We all agreed at chance meetings that we were surprised at the size of the eddies, whirlpools, and boils. Much bigger than we were used to. The eddy at Travertine Rapid is difficult to catch and we were scattered for some distance with one boat ending up across from Travertine Canyon.
