San Juan River - June 2016 - Mexican Hat to Clay Hills
In the heart of the lower Canyon. The pools of
Slickhorn Canyon
are a must see during the spring when they have water. From Slickhorn to
Clay Hills
is the downside of doing the lower Canyon. It can be a
real struggle
to navigate the sand bars, even at higher flows. Oddly enough, after years of running the Juan, have never camped at
Grand Gulch
.
Grand Gulch #1
,
Grand Gulch #2
, and
Grand Gulch #3
. The lower canyon typically has a more 'classic' river trip feel to it than the upper, but I prefer the upper for the multitude of hikes and sites to visit.
