Duncan was still making the transistion to class III boater so we had our only serious scout of the trip at Steer Ridge Rapid. After this trip was over, the transition was complete. Rock Creek was crowded. Two commercial groups filtering water and a huge private camp across from the creek. Despite 30 minutes of effort, the gravity filter refused to work while the small hand pump was very slow. So iodine pills were used for the first time since the old backpacking days. At 3 Canyon we found Moki at lower and Sherri Griffith at upper. Both were only lunching and the guide for Sherri graciously offered to let us pull in and wait out the sun before setting up camp.
