Day 1 - Montezuma Creek to Six Miles Above Sand Island
Only decent spot to rig-up that we could find. A couple others would have worked, but not easily. It was a brisk morning that had more than a hint of wind in the making. But it turned out to be an excellent day, with
Res Horses
and
snow-capped mountains
for photo opportunities. The only hike of the day was a short exploratory jaunt to top out the east rim. Could not help but note that
beaver had killed the entire cottonwood stand
where I was lounging. With less water flow, this would have been a much tougher float to Sand Island.
