On the day before launching we had just enough time to visit the mysterious Casa del Eco ruin. Also sometimes called Casa del Echo, 17 Room Ruin, and to our surprise on the trail sign, 16 House Ruin. It was worth the hike to get to, even though the cultivated fields directly below the ruin detracted from any feeling of isolation. The swinging bridge, which links the ruin to the Bluff side of the river, is as much a highlight as the ruin is. In late May, the high runoff had turned this bridge into a dangerous river-wide strainer.
