Day 2- Six Miles Above Sand Island to River House
Landscape gradually getting better. Below photo is both notable for displaying our first campsite location and for being somewhat representative of the Montezuma Creek section. We had an early morning hike to hunt ruins and sight-see. Mark/Doran worked the canyon and found a
single ruin
while I stuck to the rim and checked out the
neighborhood
. From here it was only a couple of hours to the mandatory check-in at
Sand Island
prior to entering the BLM managed section of the San Juan. Not exactly a firestorm at Sand Island when we stopped.
